Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines and the Sections Policies.
- This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
- All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
- All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
- Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
Research Congress Proceedings/Presentation
QUALIFICATIONS
Proponents who will be submitting their Full Articles whose average score from the internal and external referees is at least 60/100 based on the criteria below shall be included in the upcoming research congress:
- Research Ethics Clearance (20%): The research should have proof that it has ethical clearance from any PHREB accredited Research Ethics Boards. CUR reserves the right to have the paper reviewed by UMREC if there is a need for it. A pertinent Ethical Clearance Document should be submitted. Failure to submit this document means disqualification. Failure to pass UMREC Review, if the case arises, means disqualification. It should also pass the Turnitin 15% similarity threshold and 5% AI detection threshold.
- Research Rigor (35%): The research should have been done following strict procedures in data gathering and analysis. If the article was originally a thesis or a dissertation, it should be submitted in IMRAD format. The articles should pass the double-blind review of our external and internal referees. Proponents may submit unpublished or published papers. Those who submit their full paper should declare and must take the responsibility of informing their publisher about their intention to present their paper in our congress. (Please refer also to Procedure 4)
- Relevance and Value to the Society, City of Makati, and the University of Makati (35%): The research should either give light through data to, or give a solution to social issues highlighted by the current year's theme. UMak researchers are expected to directly address the research agenda of the City of Makati. Moreover, the research problem should be backed by a credible review of related literature that identifies the research gap.
- Grammar and Creative Use of Language (10%): As the research is intended to be published in its entirety as a research article, the research should be free from any grammatical and typographical errors. It should have been written to the extent of creativity to engage the readers.
PROCEDURE
- Authors shall submit the following:
- IMRAD Version of their full paper following the official Research Congress IMRAD Template;
- Certificate of Ethical Approval or Research Ethics Clearance from a reputable Research Ethics Board or Committee;
- Include the following if applicable:
- Proof of thesis or dissertation defense approval;
- If applicable, proof of the authorization of publisher for conference presentation.
- Short Bio-note of the author/s.
- Link to their online presentation (MS PowerPoint, Canva, Keynote, Google Slides, etc.). Paper presenters shall follow this presentation deck specifications:

- The presentation time limit shall be set by CUR;
- The presentation shall follow the 7 words per line, 7 lines per slide rule to ensure legibility. (Please refer to the CUR’s Presentation Template v2 and CIC’s UMak Basic Blue Internal presentation files)
- There shall be questions and answers after the presentation. The time limit will be set by CUR.

- Upon receipt, CUR shall forward the submissions for double-blind review.
- CUR shall summarily decide based on the recommendations of the reviewers and announce the qualified papers for the Research Congress.
- Paper presenters shall immediately receive their certificates as part of the program. However, it should be understood that the certificate only certifies paper presentation, not paper publication. Presenters may be contacted if ever their paper is approved for publication.
Research Congress: Capstone Project
A. Qualifications and Criteria For Judging
You must be a bona fide UMak Student and Employee to submit.
Capstone Project Exhibit submission shall qualify if they got at least 60/100 points based on the criteria below following the Qualifying Percentage. The winner shall be the one with the highest points based on the Award Judging Percentage.

B. Procedure for Submissions
- Proponent should submit the following in one PDF File through https://journals.umak.edu.ph/universitas/about/submissions:
- The Research Poster of the Capstone
- A3 size
- Portrait orientation
- Picture of the project, or link to the teaser video of the project if the capstone is a motion picture (animation, documentary, short or full-feature film, etc.). Indicate the dimension and required equipment for the exhibit
- The Extended Abstract (Maximum of 1000 words) of their research using this template 2024-Research-Congress-Template-Extended Abstract for Capstone and Poster.docx.
- Certificate of Ethical Approval or Research Ethics Clearance from a reputable Research Ethics Board or Committee
- Include the following if applicable:
- Proof of thesis or dissertation defense approval;
- If applicable, proof of the authorization of publisher for conference presentation.
- Short Bio-note of the author/s with scanned copies of valid UMak IDs.
- The Research Poster of the Capstone
- Upon receipt, the Sub-Committee shall forward the submissions for double-blind review.
- CUR upon advisement of the decision based on the recommendations of the reviewers and announce the five (5) qualified posters for the exhibit during the Research Congress.
- It shall be the proponent's responsibility to have their poster printed in highest quality. Proponents should have their capstone exhibit in UMak on or before 9:00 AM of 14 October 2024. They shall be present during the Congress. Absence means disqualification from the award.
- Research Poster Exhibitors shall immediately receive their certificates as part of the program. However, the certificate only certifies poster exhibition, not paper publication. Presenters may be contacted if they are also considered for the publication of their full paper.
Research Congress: Research Posters
A. Qualifications

UNIVERSITAS Research Articles
QUALIFICATIONS

CUR reserves the right to have the paper reviewed by UMREC if there is a need for it. A pertinent Ethical Clearance Document should be submitted. Failure to submit this document means disqualification. Failure to pass UMREC Review, if the case arises, means disqualification. The proponents should also prove that their article hasn’t been published before. It should also pass the TurnItIn 15% similarity threshold and 5% AI detection threshold.
- Research Rigor (35%): The research article should have been done following strict procedures in data gathering and analysis. If the article was originally a thesis or a dissertation, it should be submitted in IMRAD format. The articles should pass the double-blind review of our external and internal referees.
- Relevance and Value to the Society, City of Makati, and the University of Makati (35%): The research should either give light through data or give a solution to social issues. UMak researchers are expected to directly address the research agenda of the City of Makati. Moreover, the research problem should be backed by a credible review of related literature that identifies the research gap.
- Grammar and Creative Use of Language (10%): As the research is intended to be published in its entirety as a book, the research should be free from any grammatical and typographical errors. It should have been written to the extent of creativity to engage the readers.
PROCEDURE
- Authors may submit a proposal paper, an ongoing study, or a full paper. The author shall choose the proper category for their submission so that it will be coursed through the correct channels and will be processed properly:
- For those who will be submitting a proposal, i.e. a paper that is in its starting phase where the review of related literature has been done to indicate the research problem, and the research design and methodology:
- They shall upload their research protocol with UMREC Application For Ethics Review Of A New Protocol:
- CUR staff will forward the research protocols to UMREC for their review with the UNIVERSITAS tracking code: U-YYYY-#### (e.g. U-2023-0001). This tracking code shall be both the common tracking code for UNIVERSITAS and UMREC.
- UMREC will notify the proponents of the decisions on their proposal.
- If UMREC approves and notifies the proponents of the approval of their article proposal, proponents shall submit their full paper within six (6) months using the official UNIVERSITAS IMRAD Template.
- When CUR Receives the submission, the article will be subjected to a double-blind review.
- For those who will be submitting an ongoing study, i.e. a paper that may be in data gathering phase, or the final writing phase:
- They shall upload their research protocol with the Ethical Clearance from UMREC, from any PHREB-accredited Research Ethics Board, or any reputable international research ethics board.
- CUR will notify the proponents of their due date after 3 months of receipt of the valid submission.
- Proponents shall submit their full paper using the UNIVERSITAS IMRAD template on the due date and will be subjected to double-blind review.
- For those who will be submitting their thesis or dissertation:
- Proponents shall reduce their paper using the UNIVERSITAS IMRAD template.
- They shall combine their paper with the proofs of thesis/dissertation defense panel approval, and research ethics clearance in one PDF File.
- The paper shall be subjected to a double-blind review
- For those who will be submitting a research article that is not their thesis or dissertation:
- Proponents shall use the UNIVERSITAS IMRAD Template
- They shall also submit proof of research ethics clearance.
- The paper shall be subjected to double-blind review.
- Those papers that are approved for paper presentation during the University Research Congress that were not previously published in other research or scientific journals, shall be considered for publication in UNIVERSITAS by the Editorial Board since it has been double-blind reviewed.
- For those who will be submitting a proposal, i.e. a paper that is in its starting phase where the review of related literature has been done to indicate the research problem, and the research design and methodology:
- All submissions shall include a short bio-note of 200 words of the proponent/s.
- Upon receipt of the comments and suggestions from the internal and external referees of the double-blind review, the authors shall be given time to revise their papers within two (2) working weeks.
- CUR shall summarily decide based on the recommendations of the reviewers and shall publish the papers in the upcoming UNIVERSITAS issue.
- CUR shall award a certificate of publication to the proponents within one (1) week of the publication of the issue where the article is published and shall ensure that the proper research incentives for UMak Researchers, whether student, faculty, or administrative personnel, shall be received by them following the university process.
UNIVERSITAS Critique and Reviews
QUALIFICATION
- Verified as Scientific Paper (15%): The article should comply with the type of papers listed in the coverage of this policy for this journal.
- Sources (15%): The article may cite human, paper, or electronic sources. Granted that, such sources should be credible. It shall be the duty of the author to verify the credibility of the paper sources. No paper nor electronic sources should have been from non-scientific publications or predatory publications. No human sources should be cited anonymously. They must be scientists themselves with impeccable academic and scientific backgrounds who agreed to the interviews. No statements should be found that were not backed by careful consideration of facts and expert analyses, whether agreeing or opposing to the sources in the in-text citation. However, ethical treatment of Human/Expert sources should be proven by attaching a signed Informed Consent Form. The citation of sources and reference list should follow APA 7th Edition.
- Discussion and Analysis (25%): Other than citing sources, the article should exhibit a higher order of thinking in tackling the issue it is discussing.
- Relevance and Value to the City of Makati and the University of Makati (25%): The research should directly address the research agenda of the City of Makati.
- Grammar and Creative Use of Language (10%): The articles should be free from any grammatical and typographical errors. It should have been written to the extent of creativity to engage the readers.
PROCEDURE
- CUR shall call for scientific paper submissions at the same time as the call for papers for UNIVERSITAS and Research Congress, it shall fall under the following categories:
- Medicine and Allied Health Sciences
- Construction Sciences and Engineering;
- Human Kinetics
- Arts and Letters
- Social Sciences and Philosophy
- Culture and Tourism
- Education
- Law
- Political Science, Public Policy, and Administration
- Business and Financial Science
- Accountancy
- Information and Communication Science and Technology
- Authors shall submit here their articles using Official UNIVERSITAS Other Scientific or Academic Paper Template with the following attachments:
- Short Bionote (50 to 100 words) of the Human sources should be included after the reference list.
- Optionally, if ever there are human sources, a PDF copy of the scanned Informed Consent Form is fully accomplished by the human source.
- The author’s Bio note. It should be 100 to 200 words only per author.
- Upon receipt of submissions, the papers shall be distributed to the internal and external referees.
- Upon the recommendation of the referees, CUR shall choose the top 5 to 10 papers per category, depending on the number of submissions, which shall be included in the journal issue release for the current volume.
- CUR then shall request CIC for lay-outing services.
- When the lay-out has been done, CUR shall release the digital copy of the journal on its website and its partner organizations’ websites.
- A physical copy of the journal may be produced and may be distributed for free.
- CUR shall release certificates of publication and request for publication incentives that are applicable for this purpose.
